A Study on Status of Maternal Health in Rural Women

Abstract
|
|
|
A study on status of maternal health in rural area was conducted from September to November, 1975, toward 676 married women in Nam Myon, Hwasoon Gun, Chonnam.
The results obtained were as follows.
1. The general characteristcs of the target women.
age: 62.9% was middle aged, 35-47 years.
Job : 81.5% was farmerette.
Education: 91.4% was under primary grade or no education.
Period of inhabitation: 71.2% had been living in this area more than 10 years.
Average farming area per family: 5 majiki(1 majiki=6.6a, )
Composition of family: 56.5% was nuclear family,
2. Marriage, Pregnancy, and living children.
Average age at marriage was 19.7 years.
Older women married earlier than younger.
Average frequency of pregnancy per women was 5.4 times, and 12.4% of their pregnancies were wasted. 40. 3% of the wasted pregnancies were caused by induced abortion.
Number of living children per family was 4.6, sex ratio 52 to 48.
3. 54.4% of the women complained farmer´s symptom (lumbago, pollakiuria during night, etc.
4. Prenatal and postnatal care and farm labour.
Although 45.9% of them complained complications during pregnancy, they. did not take rest by these complications, . Only 7.0% received prenatal care during pragnancy. 74.2% could take rest after delivery but the most of them returned to the farm work within 1 week, after delivery.
5, Surroundings of delivery.
98.1 of the women delivered children at their home.
Only 4.4 was attended by medical personnel and 18.50 Was with out any attendance.-S U9.1 e with--put any attendance. 22.6% of the non-rnedicla attendants played role without doing any preparation.
Scissors were used most frequently(99.4%) as a Gutting material of umbilical cord, but 66.8% of the used cutting -material were in status of non-stelirized.
Cotton, sheet(27.3%) was generaly used at home .delivery as a delivery sheet, but ,18.3% was still using straw. orr straw bag and 13.0% was done without using any delivery.sheet.
Seaweed soup and rice(81,1 %) was the most general maternal.diet taken after delivery.
